Peter Nestler, Aufsätze (1963), West Germany
Mountain farm children in the Bernese Oberland read essays about their everyday lives aloud. The Swiss German dialect turns it into a melodic chant. - Deutsche Kinemathek, Museum für Film und Fernsehen
About Peter Nestler
Peter Nestler is a poetic provocateur. Jean-Marie Straub described him as the most important filmmaker in post-war Germany. It is Nestler's precise observation that makes his works so powerful, whether he is exploring cultural developments, work, or history and memory. Nestler's early short films are poetic and revolutionary in their editing. Quickly, he became politically too extreme for German television, emigrated to Sweden, and continued to produce additional documentary films – from 1988 onward, once again for German television. He has remained artistically an unadapted personality.
